STOMP

Surface Flux Options (W)

STOMP-W solves problems involving the flow of water with passive solutes or reactive species through variably saturated geologic media under isothermal conditions.  The Surface Flux Card for this operational mode is used to specify output for the flux of aqueous mass or aqueous volume. The simulator additionally solves equations for the transport of passive solutes, allowing for the output of solute flux.  When the ECKEChem module is implemented, the simulator has capabilities for solving reactive transport problems involving equilibrium, kinetic, and conservation type geochemical equations, allowing for the output of species flux.

Surface Output File Options

Single Surface Output File

The default for surface flux output is to a single file named surface.

Multiple Surface Output Files

Multiple surface output files can be specified, allowing the user to lump surface flux outputs to specific files.

Defining Surfaces for the Output Fluxes

Range of Node Indices

Flux surfaces are defined by specifying a surface direction and a range of grid-cell indices. Each range defines a continuous surface.

Linked Surfaces

Surfaces of various orientations and discontinuous grid cells can be linked using an external file to define the surface.

Surface Output Flux Types

Aqueous Volumetric Flux

Aqueous volumetric flux rate and integral across the specified surface in default units of m3/s and m3, respectively.

Aqueous Mass Flux

Aqueous mass flux rate and integral across the specified surface in default units of kg/s and kg, respectively.

Solute Flux

Solute flux rate and integral across the specified surface in default units of solute/s and solute, respectively; where, solute refers to the global simulation units for solute (i.e., mole, kmol, curies, kg).

Species Flux

Conservation Component Flux

Species flux rate and integral across the specified surface of user-defined conservation components in default units of mole/s and mole, respectively.

Kinetic Component Flux

Species flux rate and integral across the specified surface of user-defined kinetic components in default units of mole/s and mole, respectively.

Warning

Species are reactive and require the ECKEChem Module to be implemented in the simulator.
