Initial conditions are used to set the starting thermodynamic state of the system at every grid cell. Initial conditions can be specified via the user input or from a restart file. Restart files contain a record of all primary variables and phase condition for every grid cell. Because STOMP-HYDT-KE allows for nonequilibrium conditions between the mobile- and hydrate formers, initial conditions can be specified as being in thermodynamic equilibrium or in a non-equilibrium state. To limit the number of combinations of variables used to define the state of the system, 7 initial condition options were developed. Flash calculation routines are used to convert the initial condition specification to one of the 16 phase conditions.
